You know I about died when my daughter announced she was THINKING about joining the military. Now before some of you jump me on this, she has been one of the type that has said she would do what it would take to avoid being drafted if that ever came about. So it took me with a great surprise.

The second part of me is the fact that I am not so sure how much I trust anything ran by the government. So I was not happy with her putting her life in their hands, willingly.

So when I saw this post, I thought of her. She changed her mind, for now. I know there are many that are going to be desperate for a job in this economic crisis we have but I do not see me, even if I was still qualified, being that desperate, to join. I like to think for myself and let others do the same, on a whole.

There's a few ways to look at it. 20 years gets you a pension; 4 years gets you some training and then you can freelance as a merc.

If you knew my daughter, neither of those reasons would wash. She is not one to easily conform. And there are a whole other load of issues that I do not believe the MILITARY could see past with her.

Thanks for the sunshine side of things. I have used that point of view as I have watched many of my close friends join.

Like Smedley Butler said—"War is a racket." You have to know this going in and how to play the game (pretend to conform). Tough for most 19-year-olds to pull off though.

She is great at acting, but she has a temper like her mother. Acting wouldn't last long. LOL. She also has a heart that she can not shut off. It would kill her to do some of what they may require of her.

So basically you are willing to let others go into harms way so you can enjoy the freedoms that their sacrifice buys you....alrighty then...
